In the program, parents of children with profound hearing loss are invited for the registarion of cochlear implant. Already more than 250 children are registered with Dow University.
Prof. Masood Hameed Khan & Prof. Dr. M. Umer Farooq, Pro Vice Chancellor, DUHS sharing his views on the occasion informed the participants about Successful Cochlear Implant Surgery performed at Dow University till date. He further said that Cochlear Implant Surgery performed were absolutely complication free.
Moreover the children who are operated upon are necessarily required to undergo speech therapy for quite some time and with a period of 2 year these children will able to speak and hear permanently.
Children who had lost their hearing capacity due to viral infection or congenital deafness. He further informed that cochlear implants are quite a common phenomenon in most parts of the world and is also being performed among adult population alongwith children. However, it is an expensive mode of treatment in foreign countries but DUHS is providing the gadget and the surgical option at extremely subsidized charges and this could also be absolutely free of cost for needy patients as funds for them could be arranged through zakat fund.
Being an expensive treatment, it is difficult to continue it without the support of the government and other organisations. He requested the philanthropist to help Dow University in this cause.
