MUMBAI – Not every girl is lucky to have Salman Khan guide her back to her motherland. Though, the Bollywood superstar was all praise for Edhi and his foundation for raising and keeping Geeta, an Indian girl stucked in Pakistan for 13 years.
During an interview with the press regarding his blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman stressed that Geeta must be given a better lifestyle in India than the one in Pakistan.”
Although the Bollywood megastar was not aware of Geeta’s history, he was thankful to Edhi for housing a lost girl for 13 years.
He said, “We should thank the NGO in Pakistan (Edhi Foundation, which has looked after Geeta all these years) for supporting her and giving her a good life. We should respect the fact that they have kept an Indian there for such a long time.”
The young girl is hearing and speech-impaired and does not remember who her family is or where in India she hails from. But she never had to worry about that because Edhi’s wife took her as her daughter and upon finding out that she was Hindu, converted a small room into a temple so she could worship in the comfort of her newly found home.
While Salman and Kabir Khan are trying to spread Geeta’s story, Salman believes this is best left to the Indian government.
Salman added that if Geeta wanted to meet him then he “would be happy to” meet her.
