Over 16, 000 candidates to contest LG polls in Lahore | PakistanTribeLAHORE – The process of filing of nomination papers has completed in Punjab while more than 16, 000 candidates want to contest in the local government elections in Lahore alone.

Election Commission (EC) Punjab released statistics regarding the forthcoming local bodies’ elections in the province.

According to these statistics‚ over 163‚000 candidates have filed nomination papers to contest in 4028 Union Councils.

In Punjab, local government elections are scheduled to take place on January 30.

According to information, 14, 991 applications have been received in Lahore from December 22 to 27 and 1, 522 people have applied for the posts of Chairman and Vice Chairman.

In addition, 2, 031 women are also taking part in the G polls. Members of the minority community are also among the contestants.

More than 1, 500 applications have been submitted for labour councilors.
