Replying to point raised by Syed Naveed Qamar in National Assembly, he said Mullah Omar was not in Quetta or Karachi. He said Pakistan also do not want to involve in controversy of Taliban leadership.
Khawaja Asif said Pakistan is making efforts for the success of Afghan reconciliation process and in this regard playing a role of facilitator for negotiations between Afghan government and Taliban leadership.
He said Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan so that it leaves positive impacts on Pakistan. He said we have not control over Taliban but we have some relations with them to convince them to come to negotiation table.
He said two rounds of talks had already been held, one in China and the other in Pakistan. He said the third round was scheduled but was postponed after news of the death of Mullah Omar but the talks have not been abandoned. He said US and China are also participating in the talks as observers.
The Minister said if these talks ended on a good note, it will be the big achievement of Pakistan which will also help erase the past allegations on Pakistan.
