KARACHI – “Pakistan is the cradle of civilizations. Every Pakistani has reason to be proud of the thousands of years old cultural heritage. We need to value the freedom of this great country that we took after huge sacrifices.”
Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, expressed these views while speaking at the certificate distributing ceremony of the 8th Summer Internship Program-2015 held at Multi-Purpose Hall of the ICCBS here on Tuesday.
Dr. Iqbal Choudhary said that the students must study their country’s freedom history that could help them to understand the real picture of sacrifices and hardship faced by our freedom fighters and founders of Pakistan.
“We need to respect our historic leaders who created this wonderful country, where people enjoy all four seasons. Pakistan is the culturally rich country and considered paradise for culture tourists,” he said.
He also tinted the objective of the internship program and emphasized the need of training of young scholars in the field of science and technology.
Earlier, Dr. Asmat Salim, the programme organiser and the scientist at Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (ICCBS), said that the Summer Internship Program, 2015 was recently concluded at the ICCBS University of Karachi.
She added that ICCBS conducted this internship every year in June and July for the period of 2 months.
She said, “This program is one of the attempts of the ICCBS to promote science and technology in Pakistan. This program aims to provide short term hands-on training for students in their final year of graduation. Out of around 800 applications received from all over the country, 250 students were selected on merit, based on short written tests and interviews. Students received training in the field of Biological and Chemical Sciences, Food Sciences, Engineering, ISO Management, Library Sciences and Information Technology.”
