Parabens belong to a class of chemical preservatives used in a wide range of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Now published in the American Chemical Society Journal for Environmental Science & Technology, a recently-conducted research reaffirmed that the substances called phthalates and parabens are widely used in personal care products products e.g. lotions, shampoos, and makeup etc.
Linked to breast cancer, sperm damages, and high risk of asthma, now a wide exposure to these harmful element exposing an immense danger to the babies, and toddlers, this tends to be as much as two to three times higher than that for adult women, according to the research.
In the study, researchers have collected 170 samples of things like makeup, lotions, shampoos and other products, and these samples were, also, inclusive of 20 items for babies. The items were then tested for the presence of phthalates and parabens and both the things were commonly found in them. In baby products, phthalate concentrations were low, but parabens were common.
When the researchers calculated possible exposure levels, it was estimated that the potential daily skin exposure to parabens by infants and toddlers could be 2 to 3 times higher compared to adults. According to the data collected by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 90% of the population is exposed to them, and both phthalates and parabens have been detected in urine, breast milk and blood samples of affected patients, wherein Parebane have been, even, found in breast cancer tumors too.
