KARACHI: Former Pakistan Hockey captain, Samiullah Khan has criticised the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) upon constituting a ‘parallel’ committee to probe into the dismal performance, of the hockey team, in the recently concluded semi-final round of the Hockey World League.
“The Prime Minister had already formed a high-power committee hence there was no need for any other forum to do the same. The PHF president and secretary should appear before the earlier formed committee and apprise them instead”, said Samiullah.
“The Prime Minister of Pakistan must take notice of this unnecessary step from the PHF”, urged Samiullah.
Earlier, the Pakistan Hockey Federation announced to form a three-member fact finding committee to look into the humiliating performance of the Pakistan hockey team.
As per the press statement from the PHF, the Committee, comprised of Olympian Shahid Ali Khan, Olympian Mansoor Ahmed and Olympian Muhammad Akhlaq, was constituted under the orders of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Samiullah was of the opinion that confrontation would only lead to further damage of the game of Hockey. He feared that if this situation continued, Pakistan would even lose its place at the Asian level. “The first time in history Pakistan’s hockey team missed the World Cup and the Olympics. If this confrontation continues then I am worried about Pakistan’s standing at the Asian level too”, said the ‘flying-horse’, Samiuallah
After losing badly at the semi-final round of the Hockey World League, the Pakistan Hockey team lost the Olympics birth for the first time in history. Pakistan missed the World Cup, last year and that too was the first time in country’s rich history.
It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan is the country which took initiative to start Hockey World Cup and then made great efforts for field Hockey inclusion in Olympic games.
