PESHAWAR – A huge victory of digital publishers and bloggers of Pakistan has motivated them to move towards a new goal. Digital publishers and bloggers of Pakistan managed to convince Punjab government to withdraw internet taxes, now they moved towards Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
The bloggers and digital media persons have requested to KPK government to remove taxes on internet.
Earlier, digital publishers had opposed internet taxes imposed by Punjab government by blacking out their websites in protest.
Now after withdrawal of internet taxes from Punjab, digital publishers, internet companies and bloggers have written a letter to Chief Minister KPK Mr. Pervaiz Khattak for removal of internet taxes.
It is pertinent to mention that KPK charges 19.5% internet taxes from wired broadband customers. However, 3G and 4G data user are not liable to internet taxes due to a restraining order from court.
Copy of letter is also send to Mr. Imran Khan, Chairman PTI explains the benefits to KPK government and long term ROI of tax free internet.
Digital publishers said that because Pakistan Tehreek – e- Insaf (PTI) and KPK government are putting special efforts to put focus on education and youth development, broadband penetration will impact positively on academic ventures of KPK government.
It will also help to flourish the high-tech startup ecosystem by involving young educated minds from the province.
