CALIFORNIA – Apple, an American multinational technology company is developing a new iPhone with a flexible curved screen that could be likely to introduce in 2018.
The device would have a similar screen to the Apple Watch that is based on a technology called organic light-emitting diode (OLED).
One thing good about it is that it would brighter and show colors better than current iPhone screens.
Apple has adopted some of that technology, such as OLED, in its Apple Watch, but has been reluctant to use them in its iPads and iPhones.
OLED screens are deployed by manufacturers such as LG and Samsung, the latter of which has been using them in its smartphones, wearables and tablets for several years now.
Samsung’s OLED screens are often viewed as the best on the market. LG also uses flexible screens in devices such as the G Flex and G Flex 2.
Business Korea has claimed that Apple is ‘serious’ about transferring its flagship product lineup to one equipped with OLED, screens as those displays can solve its existing weak points such as color saturation, accuracy, and brightness.’
The source added that if Apple releases an iPhone with an OLED-based flexible screen, it will create a huge market, as Apple has not yet used the technology in its flagship models.
Apple is also believed to be mulling killing off the home button, it has been claimed.
The move would allow the entire front of the gadgets to become a screen. Instead of a button, fingerprint sensors would be built into the screen to allow the firms Touch ID system to work.
