BEIJING- The former Chief of security in China, Zhou Yongkang has got a life imprisonment by the Tianjin No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court.
Mr. Zhou was charged with bribery, misuse of power, and “intentionally disclosing national secrets”.
He was among the most powerful personalities in China, before he got retired in 2012.
He was listed under investigation as a part of an anti-corruption campaign, when the President Xi Jinping came at the helm of affairs a year later after his retirement.
According to the sources, he will not appeal the conviction. He was convicted in a closed door trial held at the northern city of Tianjin, the reason for the closed door trial was that it involved the discussion regarding secret affairs of the state.
He has also been stripped of all political rights and his personal assets have also been seized.
He was indicted in April, nine months after a formal investigation was announced. He has since been excluded from the Communist Party since then.
