NEW DELHI – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s images have appeared in the image search results for query on “Top 10 criminals in India”.
Many took this as sign that ‘Google thinks’ Narendra Modi is one of the top 10 criminals.#top10criminals has been trending on Twitter since many days with everyone seemingly have an opinion on the subject.
The list also included 1993 Mumbai bombings mastermind Dawood Ibrahim, American gangster Al Capone, underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Joseph Kony and Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.
After many political leaders and commentators began expressing concern, Google issued a statement of apology for “any misunderstanding or confusion.”
According to Indian media reports where they quoted a Google spokesperson as saying: “These results trouble us and are not reflective of the opinions of Google. Sometimes, the way images are described on the internet can yield surprising results to specific queries.”
Google said that results to the query “top 10 criminals in India” was due to a British daily which had an image of Modi and erroneous metadata.
