NETHERLANDS- A Dutch Member of Parliament (MP), Geert Wilders who is famous for his anti-Islam credentials has vowed to show the cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) on television.
It is pertinent to mention here that depictions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) are offensive for all Muslims at large.
These cartoons were exhibited in an event, the Muhammad Art Exhibition, held on May 3rd in Texas, at which Mr. Wilders was a keynote speaker, but an attack by the two gunmen sabotaged the attempt.
The MP wanted to show these cartoons in the parliament but it refused to allow the cartoons to be exhibited in its premises.
Mr. Wilders leads the Party For Freedom (PVV) and is known for expressing contempt for Islam and the mass immigration and has campaigned to ban Quran in Netherlands.
He was alleged to have inculcated hatred against the Moroccan community of the country. In December 2014, an announcement was made to prosecute him over this charge.
The gunmen who attacked the event at a conference center near Dallas were shot dead by the police. The conference was inclusive of a contest offering $10,000 prize for a cartoon.
Mr. Wilders gave a statement, “Terrorists have to realize that they will never win and how important freedom of speech is for us in the Netherlands.”
