WASHINGTON- The 29 year old Operating System, Microsoft (MS) has announced to release its last major version on July 29th, 2015. This will be a free upgrade for users of Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

The Operating System will then be shifted to a “Windows as a service” system, which contains updates launched when ready.

This will cause a change in the business model of the corporation as well. As the operating system has been offered free for the Widows 7 and the later versions users within one year, which implies that Windows 10 would be free till June 29th, 2016.

Though each version of the Windows cost the buyer 100 pounds but now the users receive the operating system when buying a new computer, they do not have to update the software themselves. When Windows 8.1 was launched, the start menu of the Windows 8 was restored as a free upgrade.

Regarding the features of the upcoming version of Windows, the executive vice president of Microsoft, Terry Myerson states that “Windows 10 is a new generation of Windows designed to empower you to do great things”.

“Windows 10 starts to deliver on our vision of more personal computing, defined by trust in how we protect and respect your personal information, mobility of the experience across your devices, and natural interactions with your Windows devices, including speech, touch, ink and holograms”, he says.

Further revelations about the features of Windows 10 tell that most of its features are the same as in Windows 7 and later versions, but it would contain a debut in the form of MS’s voice controlled digital assistant, Cortana which would rival the Apple’s Siri and Google’s Now. Cortana will be available for iPhone and Android devices.
