CHICAGO- A Muslim woman, Tahera Ahmad, who is a chaplain at the Northwestern University has been denied an unopened can of diet coke on the American airline, United Airlines, while boarding on a flight from Chicago to Washington.
The cleric claims that she has been discriminated for being a Muslim. According to her account, the flight attendant was discriminating against her as she asked for an unopened can of soda for hygienic reasons.
As per the details, she was presented with an open can and she requested the attendant a new beverage but was told “I’m sorry I just can’t give you an unopened can so no diet coke for you.” But a man sitting next to her was presented with an unopened can of beer.
When the lady inquired that how could the man get the unopened can when she cannot, she got the response that: ‘We are unauthorized to give unopened cans to people because they may use it as a WEAPON on the plane.”
Ahmad says that she asked the other passengers if the attendant’s attitude was discriminatory but met even more inflammatory attitude. Some people just shook their heads in dismay and one man said, “You Moslem, you need to shut the f**up… yes you know you would use it a WEAPON”
Tahera Amhad gave this account on social media and her post went viral leading boycott of the Airlines. The Muslim activists termed the incident as “inexcusable act of bigotry.”
