SWITZERLAND- During a Dawn Raid in Zurich, the top officials of International Federation Of Association Football (FIFA) have been arrested on corruption charges.
According to the American newspaper, New York Times these arrested officials would be extradited to America where they would undergo trials under the charges of wire fraud and money laundering. According to the sources, the arrested officials amount to 6 individuals.
The senior official of FIFA affirmed the news while talking to the media. He revealed that these officials have been arrested from the Hotel Baur Au Lac, Zurich. However, he did not tell the final number or names of the arrested officials.
Officials of the Executive Committee of FIFA came to Zurich to attend the two days annual meeting of the organization.
New York Times states that the Swiss Police Officers seized the keys of those officials’ rooms from the registration desk.
There was no resistance by the officials while being arrested and at least two officials were being led outside without being handcuffed.
Furthermore an official belonging to Costa Rica was arrested along with his belongings.
The charges allege corruption over two past decades, involving bids for World Cup and the marketing and broad casting deals regarding the World Cup.
