ISLAMABAD – The first Chinese Language Teaching Association Pakistan (CLTAP) was launched by the Confucius Institute Islamabad at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad, today (Wednesday).
The new designate Ambassador of People’s Republic of China, Sun Weidong, was the Chief Guest in the launching ceremony and the launching ceremony was also attended by Chinese Cultural Counsellor Mr. Shan Baoxiang, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Rector NUML Maj Gen (R) Masood Hasan, DG Brig Azam Jamal and other officials and dignitaries from with in and outside of the university.
The Ambassador Sun Weidong, speaking at the launching ceremony, said that history of Pakistan-China’s all weather relationship is six-decade old and the each student who is learning or have learnt Chinese language here in NUML guarantees the durable and time tested relations in future as well. The mounting demand for learning Chinese language in Pakistan reflects that these relations have a splendid future ahead, he added.
He said that Chinese Parliament has initiated a comprehensive reforms and master plan for future to realize the dream of prosperous China. Under this master plan the trade with the neigbouring countries has been grown from $ 100 bn to $ 3 trillion. China realize that the more developed she is, the more she can share her economic benefit with her neighbouring countries, he added.
He further said that CLTAP would enable many young teachers, students and learners to share resources, exchange ideas, formulate a community and then contribute towards the greater cause of promotion of bilateral relations by facilitating cultural, economic, political and commercial exchanges between both the countries, he added.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, while speaking at the occasion, said that Chinese language is a pillar of communication between Pakistan and China and NUML is a springboard to facilitate this pillar. The inauguration of CLTAP is a positive initiative and NUML is a right place to launch this association as NUML is nursery for the promotion, dissemination, and diffusion of Chinese language, culture, and popular relations among states.
Mr Hussain said that next Chinese Year 2014 is year of “Horse” which symbolizes stamina, strength, and speed. The recent high level visits, exchanges, economic, cultural and geo-strategic understandings and cooperation reflect that these relations are going to have great stamina, perseverance, strength and speed in future, he added.
In his welcome address, DG Brig Azam Jamal briefed the guests about the singular honour of NUML for being the first and the oldest institution in Pakistan and Islamic World to impart Chinese language teaching and learning. He eulogized the role of Chinese Embassy and Cultural Office of the Chinese Embassy for assisting NUML whether it is provision of teachers, syllabus and learning material or arrangements of cultural events for the benefit of students.
The visiting guest along with Rector and DG NUML also visited the different teaching and learning facilities of the university. In the end the Rector NUML Maj Gen (R) Masood Hasan handed over university souvenir to Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong and Senator Mushahid Hussain.
