Higher Education Commision released the list of ranking on Monday for the year 2013 – 2014.
University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Punjab University of Lahore, secured second and third place respectively, as per HEC ranking.
While discussing the university’s achievement a faculty member of QAU, Dr. Ghaniur Rehman said that their secret to success is extensive focus on research, “we have large number of PhDs in the faculty and are producing more doctoral candidates every year,” he said.
It is important to note here that another major university, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), is not included in even top ten ranking.
Last year IIUI was included in the list of top ten universities of Pakistan.
The report is published after a year delay. HEC chairperson Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed stated on the launch of the list, “After much effort, the herculean task of collecting, analyzing and the final evaluation for the new ranking was made possible.”
“This time we have tried our best to overcome all technical statistical bias,” he added.
He admitted that there were errors in the 2012 rankings, published in 2013.
The ranking is conducted for 120 varsities present prior to June 30, 2009.
Allama Iqbal Open University and Virtual University are not considered in the list because of not providing complete data.
In overall ranking QAU secured the top slot followed by University of Agriculture Faisalabad and University of Punjab, respectively.
COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad and Aga Khan University are placed at fourth and fifth position.
National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, University of Karachi, Karachi and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) grasped sixth, seventh and eight slot.
University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore and University of Health Sciences, Lahore are placed at ninth and tenth position, respectively.
