Kohli Beats Ronaldo and Messi in Market Value| PakistanTribe.comLONDON – Indian cricketer Virat Kohli secured sixth place as the most ‘marketable athlete’ by British Sports Magazine, beating super star footballers Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard topped the list, he was ranked as No 13 in 2014 but this time he leaped and secured No 1 position.

Brazilian footballer superstar Neymar da Silva Santos Junior was named the second most marketable athlete.

British Sports business magazine ‘SportsPro’ published the list of most marketable athletes.

The monthly magazine reports on the business and financial aspects of sports across the world, has placed Kohli- 26 years old Indian cricketer, just a rung below British Formula One reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Another Indian athlete is also placed in a list at the 44th position, which is Siana Nehwal, world’s number one badminton player.

United States’ golfer Jordan Speith came in third while American swimmer Missy Franklin was ranked forth.

Below Kohli, United States’ basketball star Stephan Curry was at seventh, followed by Japanes tennis player Kei Nishikori, British heptathlete Katrina Johnson – Thompson and Bolt in the top ten.

Except Kohli, only one cricketer is enlisted as top marketable athlete which is Steven Smith of Australia, spotted 45th.

Tennis player Novak Djokovic was placed at 14 while Ronalso and Messi at number 16 and 22 respectively.

The magazine said it considered the market potential of an athlete over next three years not the current one.

Athletes across the world were ranked against criteria including age, home market, charisma, willingness to be marketed and crossover appeal. The results followed several weeks of analysis by the Sports Pro team and external industry experts, magazine said.
