ISLAMABAD- The key advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Policy, Sartaj Aziz has claimed that to release 16 Pakistanis imprisoned in Israel, United Nations (UN), United States (US) and Jordan have been contacted.
As we have no diplomatic relations with Israel so no direct contact can be made with Tel Aviv, he added further.
During a meeting of Senate on Tuesday, the Foreign Policy adviser while responding to the question posed by Senator Shahi Syed from Awami National Party (ANP) said that we have received response from UN and US that the message has been sent to Israel though Tel Aviv has not responded yet.
He said that Pakistani government is not aware of the condition of Pakistanis imprisoned there, as no access has been provided to them yet neither the reason for their arrest could be known hitherto.
In 2009, the cargo ship named MV Danny F II met an accident due to which 16 Pakistanis went missing. Last year a report revealed that these Pakistanis are imprisoned in Israel. This is a serious humanitarian issue.
We do not have direct diplomatic relations with Israel so no information can be received directly. Nevertheless we have talked to the officials of US and Jordan as well as United Nation’s Under Secretary General to cooperate for the release of these Pakistanis.
Shahi Syed maintained while talking to the media that Pakistan has a representative in UN, through him this issues can be presented in UN.
“Private organization have kept ignoring this issue which is quite strange”. He said further.
