Today, April 22 world is celebrating 45th earth day with the aim of drawing together peoples of all nations, cultures, and religions to advance peace, justice, and earth care.
John McConnell is best known for his role in starting Earth Day in 1970. Its purpose was “peace, justice, and the care of Earth”. Because we, the inhabitants of the planet earth, have done enough damage to it as if we had another one to go to.
The world we are experiencing today is the result of our collective consciousness. There are unquestionably human reasons for ecological change on the planet. To fulfill our needs for the crude materials that we need, we undermine the very establishment of our life support system. The devastation of the environmental framework that has as of late been perceived as another manifestation of roughness is in view of the constant idea that human life is reliant on the earth they are devastating. Through different manifestations of ecocides, violence incurred on the earth produces imbalanced relations not only among people but among nature and people as well.
The question is, “do we have courage to face the realities of our times, and take action quick enough to avoid catastrophe?”
A Global Call To Action
As many as 97% of the climate scientists agree man made climate change is real. And now it’s time to act collectively to protect the earth, what we all have in common. And if we really want to save it each of us must start taking responsibility.
We are that one generation who have see the dire effects of environmental change, and might be the last generation who can do anything about it. And we have to accept the reality that without us, Earth will abide and endure; without her, however, we could not even be.
The plain fact is that the earth does not need more ‘successful’ people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every shape and form. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane
While taking the sheared responsibility to protect the earth, every country should put it in the category of their national security. Otherwise, what is there to defend? Earth Day is an opportunity for all world leaders to think and act as trustees of Earth.
Let us be good stewards of the earth we inherited. All of us have to share the earth’s fragile ecosystems and precious resources, and each of us has a role to play in preserving the if we are to go on living together on this earth, we must all be responsible for it.
We have to do all we can with what we have, because ‘Green’ is not something we can buy. Green is a way of life.
