KARACHI- Leading Pakistani scientist and founding Director of H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry- University of Karachi (UoK) Prof. Dr. Saleem-uz-Zaman Siddiqui is being remembered in the country on his 21st death Anniversary.

Patron -in-Chief International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, Director ICCBS Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, faculty members, students and employees offered Fatiha Khawani for the departed soul of the great intellectual at his grave.

Dr. Siddiqui was born in Subeha (Barabanki District) near Lucknow on 19 October 1897. He obtained his Doctorate degree from Germany in 1927.

 

He was the founder member of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the drafting committee of the Pakistan Science Commission, and Chairman of the Pakistan Council of Science & Technology.

He was also elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) of London in 1961. He published over 400 research papers.

He passed away on April 14, 1994 due to cardiac arrest after a brief illness in at the age of 97.

Vice Chancellor UoK Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser, Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary have said that the whole life of Dr. Siddiqui was like a success path for our young students and scientists to follow on.
