The anti-terrorism court of Rawalpindi found Mumtaz Qadri guilty and ordered the death sentence for him but now the guilty has decided to file the appeal to review its case again.
The appeal will be filed by his Lawyer, Khawaja Sharif. He maintains in the application that the sentence of death is not in accordance with rules and regulations applicable in Pakistan.
He appealed the government to review the whole case again because it is not in the category of murder and the guilty cannot be sentenced by death penalty under the constitution and law prevailing in Pakistan.
He said that according to the Pakistan Penal Code 1860, the accused cannot be given the death penalty because he cannot be charged for murder because matter is of the outrageous nature.
Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, one of Salman Taseer’s bodyguards, was charged with terrorism and murdering the governor in Islamabad on January 4, 2011.
Qadri confessed to killing Salman Taseer, the former Governor Punjab, saying he objected to the politician’s calls to amend the blasphemy law.
