The inaugural ceremony of the Lok Mela held in Open Air Theatre, Lok Virsa. Secretery, Minister of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Azam Khan was the chief guest on this occasion.
The chief guest, Azam Khan, said on the opportunity that folk artists and artisans are striving hard to preserve the cultural heritage of the country.
Around 500 artists are participating in the Lok Mela including the far off areas and remote regions. The main aim of the Mela is to exhibit the main crafts of the Pakistan which are about to extinct like Provincial cultural Pavilions, Chitral and Kalash Pavilion, folkloric songs and dance and performance by rural musicians.
Promotional stalls from public Organizations, NGO’s, crafts business and traditional food cuisine and traditional items are also the part of the Mela.
Many people from all walks of the life came to attend the inaugural ceremony and amusing performances by folk artists and artisans. They are much happy and termed the Mela as the true representation of the whole of Pakistan and its beauty.
Executive Director of Lok Virsa, Dr. Fauzia Saeed said, “The major thrust of the Mela is the Focus on Provincial harmony and national integration highlighting the contribution of our people in building future Pakistan.”
The annual Lok Mela will continue till April 12.
