Women in Parliament: Pakistan touches highest band with 18%

Women in Parliament: Pakistan touches highest band with 18% | PakistanTribeISLAMABAD – Inclusion of women in Parliament is considered as key performing indicator for the gender equality across the world where 22 percent members of parliaments (MP) were females in 2012.

Very close to international ‘standard’, Pakistan touches the highest peak of female parliamentarians with 18% in 2013.

Majority of these 18% women MPs have been selected on the reserves seats while a handful were elected in the general elections.

Mainstream political parties (PPP, PML-N) doesn’t prefer merit or democracy while choosing women for central leadership but the blood relation with top leadership seems to be only criteria.

Women in Pakistan are part of all public and private sectors organization including forces. Fire rescue department is the only public sector organization working without any woman member in team across Pakistan.
