ISLAMABAD – The United Nations (UN) has accepted Pakistan’s demand to extend its territorial waters limit.

According to media televised reports UN has approved Pakistan’s request to extend its continental shelf.

Navy spokesman brief the media that Pakistan got increase about 50 thousand square kilometers in the territorial waters.

Pakistan is the first country in the region, according to the spokesman, who demands increase in its territorial waters.

Pakistan Navy spokesman also informed the media that the extension in maritime territorial waters limit will help in increase of country’s resources as well.

Navy spokesman said that Pakistan claimed the increase the ranges of their territorial waters from 200 to 350 nautical miles.

The spokesman said that the project to extend territorial waters was initiated in 2005. The project was initiated by Pakistan Navy and National Institute Hydrography.

He further told that the project was collectively planned under the supervision of Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, with the objective to gain complete control over the resources of Pakistan.
