ISLAMABAD/KARACHI – Saulat Mirza’s petition for second review rejected by the supreme court on Tuesday, PakistanTribe reported
The petition was filed by death row convict, also member of MQM and a target killer, Saulat Mirza who will be hanged in Machh Jail in Baluchistan.
A local newspaper reported about the petition that “the petition stated that the incident took place on July 5, 1997, while the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), 1997 was promulgated on August 20. The petitioner has been convicted under statute 7(i)(a) of the ATA, 1997, read with 302 Pakistan Penal Code at the same time.”
It further states that “the petition said the death sentence awarded to Mirza should be converted into life imprisonment as a criminal cannot be awarded two types of sentences for the same crime.”
However the bench presided by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk heard the case but the application of target killer was rejected.
