ISLAMABAD – Molana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, who belongs to Jamiatul-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) took the oathas new Deputy Chairman Senate, PakistanTribe.com reported.
Molana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri took 74 votes and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Shibli Faraz got 16 votes although the number of senators belonging to PTI are only eight.
Earlier, Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday endorsed the nomination of Molana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, who belongs to Jamiatul-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) for Deputy Chairman Senate.
Veteran politician, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri is from Balochistan province. He holds the important portfolio of Chairman Standing Committee on Railways. He is also a member of several Standing Committees including Communications and Postal Services, Foreign Affairs and Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Water and Power.
Earlier on Wednesday, Opposition Leader, Syed Khursheed Shah held a meeting with PMLQ leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Pervaiz Elahi, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, BNP and PPP leaders at Zardari House here.
During the meeting the name of Abdul Ghafoor Haideri was shortlisted for the post of deputy chairman Senate.
Later, Khursheed Shah had telephoned PM Nawaz to discuss nomination of deputy chairman Senate.
The first session of 13th parliamentary year has been summoned by President Mamnoon Hussain today.
