LAHORE – Facing on and off criticism on neglecting Southern Punjab and its people, Punjab government has finally come up to break this criticism a bit.

The provincial government has raised 25 percent scholarships quota for the students from Southern Punjab.

According to Member of National Assembly Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Begum Parveen Masood Bhatti, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has increased twenty five per cent scholarship quota for students of South Punjab from the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund and International Development Fund.

In an interview with state media, she said with the enhancement of South Punjab’s quota, scholarships worth seventy million rupees would be given away to three thousand talented students of Bahawalpur district during the current year.

She said a scholarship of nine thousand and eighteen thousand rupees had been fixed monthly for a day scholar and a boarder, respectively.

As many as seven hundred and eighty nine students of the Bahawalpur district were distributed scholarships of total fifteen million rupees so far.

Millions of children are forced by their patrons to start their ‘working life’ well before school tenure and they have to finish their studies in the midway.
