ISLAMABAD – The day of women as here as the International Women’s Day is being observed in Pakistan as elsewhere in the world today to highlight services of women.

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in their messages on the occasion have reaffirmed pledge to protect women’s rights and provide them with equal opportunities to grow in every sphere of life.

“The government is committed to protect the women from all sorts of exploitation and marginalization,” they further said.

“The internal and regional instruments, including the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women are being implemented in their true letter and spirit.”

The President and the Prime Minister have urged the UN agencies, civil society organizations and the media to supplement the government’s efforts in this regard.

In his massage, Minister for Information and Law said the government is undertaking policy, legislative and administrative reforms to protect and promote women’s rights.

Various types of programs, seminars, lecture and other activities have been planned for the day by the women from all walks of the life.

Google, which usually marks international days and special events with special doodles, has come up with another good piece of art and design.

This year’s theme is ‘make it happen’ and aims to recognise and advance women across the globe.
