pleasant news for overseas pakistanisLAHORE – Facing several types of problems and bureaucratic delaying tactics for their works, there is a pleasant news for Overseas Pakistanis from Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that provincial government has formed an Overseas Pakistanis Commission to resolve the problems being faced by the Pakistani expatriates.

He said this while talking to the PML-N UK President Zubair Gul, who called on him in Lahore today.

Shahbaz believed that Pakistanis abroad ere great ambassadors of the homeland all over the world.

Expat Pakistanis contribute major portion of national income sending billions of dollars to the country.

Bill For Voting Right Overseas Pakistanis
An approval of a bill at Senate of Pakistan will enable overseas Pakistan cast vote in upcoming elections, PakistanTribe.Com reported earlier.

According to sources, an amendment is required in Public Representative Act 1976 to set up polling stations at all Pakistan embassies abroad.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, Imran Khan, demanded to Election Commission, in a recent meeting, to give voting rights to overseas Pakistanis.

However, Election Commission says there needs to be a lawmaking to give this right to the Pakistanis abroad. A bill is already in the senate, awaiting for the approval.

Earlier, the government has issued an ordinance for the right, but law is pending at standing committee of the senate for last two years.

PTI is considered sas the most popular party in overseas Pakistanis with a massive support – financially and vote wise – from them. Imran Khan is also a known and popular figure for old and young overseas Pakisatnis. So efforts of PTI and its leader are wise to gain a majority of votes, where there is no competition.

There also an interesting scenario regaring the bill; as Jahangir Badar, Pakistan Peoples Party leader, is in favour of the bill, while Raza Rabbani, the senior leader of PPP, is against the bill.

As per the bill, all Pakistan embassies will be setting up polling stations where computerized ballot papers, and voters lists would be developed. Afterwards, they will be sent to Election Commission via post.
