ISLAMABAD – Further stepping towards verification of users, cellular companies likely to block millions of unverified SIMs by tomorrow (on Friday) following the PTA instructions.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority had given the dead line of 26th February but still millions of SIMs are to be verified. May be government extend the date but it seems not easy.
Cellular companies will prioritize those users who have more than two or three SIMs on their names.
An official of PTA told that government will, he expects, not extend the date any further. “All the unverified SIMs of those having three or more pre-paid connections will be blocked from Friday. However, those having less than three pre-paid connections, can verify their SIMs till April 13,” he said.
Before this, on Feb 15, Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) had blocked 5.6 million unverified SIMs. Telecom operators had re-verified a total of 47.4 million SIMs against 35.6 million CNICs, while another 5.6 million SIMs were blocked after February 15th, 2015.
According to the statistics, a total of 53 million SIMs had been processed (either re-verified or blocked) while another 53 million SIMs were pending re-verification.
It is pertinent to mention that last day for verification is April 14. But those users who have more than two or three SIMs will have to verify their SIMs maximum by today.
