Gayle 200 in World Cup 2015

Gayle 200 in World Cup 2015CANBERRA: Hitting Machine seems to turned on as Chris Gayle has crossed 200 mark in the world cup for the first time in the history.

The landmark figure crossed in a match against Zimbabwe at Canberra on Tuesday.

Missed a near lbw, Gayle hit nine fours and 16 sixes to reach 226 runs in the match only facing 138 balls.

Earlier, Gary Kirsten of South Africa had the best 188 in 1996 match against the United Arab Emirates.

It was also only the fifth double century in all ODI cricket and the first by a non-Indian, with Rohit Sharma (two), Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag the only other batsmen to achieve the feat.

Gayle and Marlon Samuels, who scored a century himself, also set a new partnership record for any ODI wicket, surpassing the 331 shared by India’s Rahul Dravid and Tendulkar against New Zealand at Hyderabad (Deccan) in 1999.
