It made us smile and it made us cry. It made us fall in love with Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan.
Yes we are talking about none other than “Humsafar”. The blockbuster TV series that appeared on our TV screens in 2011.
Directed by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat and produced by Momina Duraid, Humsafar hooked all of Pakistan on their TV screens. And that is not it, Indian channel Zee Zindagi TV also aired Humsafar for their audience and guess what? The Indian fans are now equally crazy about Asher and Khirad and the actors who played the characters, Fawad and Mahira.
However, readers would be surprised to know that the record breaking and award winning Drama serial that was aired on Hum TV was previously turned down by two other TV channels. This was revealed by the producer of the Star studded drama, Momina Duraid while she was being interviewed by Dawn.
Humsafar featured some of Pakistan’s finest actors like Atiqa Odho, Behroze Sabzwari, Hina Khawaja Bayat and Saba Faisal.
While talking to Dawn, Momina Duraid said:
“When I was working with Farhat Ishtiaq Humsafar was not the drama we had in mind. We were doing another project, which is yet to be aired, but when I read the novel I thoroughly enjoyed it and told Farhat I wanted to base my drama on it. She told me it had already been declined by two channels and I responded with: ‘If I can feel it, public can feel it as well.'”
This realization and farsightedness surely paid Momina Duraid well since the Drama Serial was loved by everyone. Everything about it and associated with it became successful. From the leading cast to the singer who sang its original soundtrack. “Wo humsafar tha” which was performed by written by Naseer Turabi and originally sung by the legendary Abida Parveen was featured as the soundtrack of this drama and for that purpose was performed by Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch. The song became an instant hit and the young singer rose to fame.
