Marley and Reagan

February 6th will always be celebrated as the birthday of two very popular celebrities of all times; US president Ronald Reagan and Jamaican Musician Bob Marley.

Ronald Reagan:

Born on 6th February, 1911, Ronald Reagan was an American politician and a highly acclaimed actor.

Reagan entered Hollywood after winning a contract following a screen test. During his film career, Reagan featured in more than 50 movies.

After getting due recognition as an actor, Reagan entered American politics. During his time as the president of the Screen Actors Guild, his political views changed from liberal to conservative.

Before he became the 40th President of United States of America and served two presidential terms, from 1981-1989, Reagan was also a two time governor of California. He was first successful in the gubernatorial run in the year 1966 and then later on in 1970 was re-elected as the governor of California. Reagan, who was started as a democrat, ran for Presidency from the Republican Party.

Just after 69 days of being elected as the president, Reagan was shot in Washington; however, luckily the bullet narrowly missed his heart.

Reagan married twice, and had four children, Maureen and Michael from Jane Wyman, his first wife who was an actress and Patricia Ann and Ronald Prescott from Nancy Davis, his second wife, also an actress whom he married in 1952.

Ronald Reagan passed away in 2004 at the age of 93, ten years after he publically announced that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Bob Marley:

Bob Marley, Jamaican singer, song-writer and musician was born on 6th February, 1945 in Jamaica.

Born as Robert Nesta Marley, Bob started his musical career with a band called the Wailers in the year 1963. The Wailers released some of their best songs in collaboration with Lee Scratch Perry, however due to certain circumstances, the collaboration ended and in 1974, later on, two of the Wailers members also left the band.

Bob went on to form the band “Bob Marley and the Wailers” which received huge success and recognition.

In the year 1976, Marley received international fame and recognition after he released the album the “Rastaman Vibration”, which reached the Top 10 on US Billboard 200 charts. In the same year, a politically motivated life threatening attempt was made on Marley’s life, which he fortunately survived.

Marley went on to receive many awards and achievements posthumously, including his induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the year 1994, receiving the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 2001 (although he was never nominated for a Grammy).  In the year 1999, Bob’s album “Exodus” which he released in 1977 was titled as the “Album of the Century” by the renowned Time Magazine, not only this but his track “One Love” was chosen as the “Song of the Millennium” by the BBC.

Bob married Rita Marley in the year 1966. The couple had three children; however in total Bob had eleven children, although some sources claim that he had more than eleven children.

At the tender age of 36, Bob Marley passed away in a hospital in Miami on May 11, 1981 due to cancer.
