ISLAMABAD – United States Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs Douglas Frantz visited Islamabad on December 10. He met with Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry and with representatives from Pakistani media outlets.
The Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs is responsible for ensuring that timely and accurate information about U.S. foreign policy and State Department activities is conveyed to U.S. and international media. The information outreach that Assistant Secretary of State Frantz manages supports U.S. foreign policy and national security interests and broadens understanding of the United States.
During his visit, Assistant Secretary of State Frantz promoted U.S. efforts to support professional development for U.S. and Pakistani journalists and to improve the conditions journalists face around the world. The United States has provided numerous training opportunities for journalists, both in the United States and in Pakistan. These programs reflect the U.S. government’s commitment to promoting independent journalism and the cause of free speech worldwide.
