One of the many McDonald’s outlets in Japan caused their administration some serious embarrassment when they had to apologize after some plastic pieces, a human tooth and other things were discovered in the globally recognized fast food chain’s food.
The chaos created in the wake of this incident is not a lone occurrence in the chain’s troubled history. In the recent times, the same fast food chain’s outlets in China and Japan were under a lot of scrutiny after the news of usage of expired meat in their food items became known to public.
Recently, the news of a child’s mouth being injured by some fragments of plastic in an ice cream also surfaced. The fault took place when the sundae was being processed for the customer.
In a similar case, last year (2014) in August, a tooth also turned up in a consumer’s Fries which came with his Big Mac. As an explanation, McDonald’s clarified that none of their staff were found missing a tooth and the fact that how the tooth and bits of plastic got into the food deal is still unknown.
A senior official named Takehiko Aoki said: “To make such cases zero is our goal,” he further added, “We are doing our utmost to tackle them, one by one.”
Mr Takehiko Aoki is of the opinion that such rare incidents cannot paint a fair picture of the overall quality control policies and measures of the chain. He further commented that such incidents are “isolated” in nature. Aoki claimed that there might be chances that the consumers planted the tooth and the plastic fragments themselves.
The popular food chain that has around 3000 outlets in Japan has braved the threat of ‘mad cow’ and other such health apprehensions regarding calorie count. On another note, the chain also had to deal with nationwide potato shortage, which limited their fries’ serving size.
