THARPARKAR – At least five more children died today (Friday)  due to the dearth of food in Thar mounting the death toll to 261 in a time span of 93 days.

The deceased include a 10-day old Rizwana Bajeer of Chachro, a newborn in Kimari village Diplo and an infant in Chandano village in addition to two others.

Locals of Thar have been deprived of wheat assistance as the administration slowed down the distribution of aid whereas 80 families devoid of wheat have not yet been surveyed by the government.

Earlier, a seven-day old Ali Muhammad who was under treatment at Civil Hospital Mithi got died whereas on the other hand, one-month old baby girl also lost her life at Chachru Hospital.
Despite government tall claims, no facilities have been provided to the famine affectees as six tehsildars refused to give wheat sacks to the Thar victims.

According to sources rate of death in Tharparkar has increased and number of death of children has raised to 110 for the month of December 2014.

Earlier, More than 80 children are still under treatment whereas 9 of them have been declared critical. Some of the children have been admitted to to Mithi Civil Hospital and hospitals of Karachi and Hyderabad.

At least 53 children are also under treatment in Mithi Civil Hospital out of which  critical condition. Sindh government has labeled Tharparkar as calamity region but the local administration has not initiated any relief work.

Distribution of blankets and dates given to the victims is not speedy. Every passing day children are dying due to harsh weather, food shortage and diseases but criminal government of Sindh is not taking any solid step except a silence.

Insufficient rainfall and lack of vegetation in the region is one of the prime contributing factors in causing malnutrition in mothers.The malnutrition in mothers leads to health problems amongst the infants and children.Mostly children are born malnourished, leading to their deaths.

The drough stricken region of Tharparkar still continues to face food shortage and the concerned authorities have failed in responding to the issue.
