ISLAMABAD – Majority of Pakistanis disagree with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Syed Munawar Hasan’s stance of declaring PAkistani Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud a martyr.
According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, majority of Pakistanis (58%) disagree with Syed Munawar Hasan’s stance of declaring Hakimullah Mehsud a martyr.
A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Recently, Jamat-e-Islami’s leader Syed Munawar Hasan declared the previous head of Tehreek-e-Taliban a martyr. To what extent are you in favor of or against this statement?” Responding to this, 14% completely agreed followed by 25% who somewhat agreed. 29% disagreed completely while 29% somewhat disagreed. 3% did not respond.
Question: “Recently, Jamat-e-Islami’s leader Syed Munawar Hasan and Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman declared the previous head of Tehreek-e-Taliban a martyr. To what extent are you in favor of or against this statement?”
The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2604 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during November 18, 2013 – Nov 25, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
