Thousands of people celebrated the 10th anniversary of Tsunami victims and prayed for the souls of victims. More than 220,000 people died when an underwater earthquake set off massive waves on 26 December 2004.

In Aceh’s capital – a province of Indonesia – Banda Aceh, Mr Kalla thanked local volunteers and the outside world for helping Aceh recover from the tragedy. He also presented awards to ambassadors from the donor nations.”Thousands of corpses were sprawled in this field” he said. “Tears that fell at that time… there were feelings of confusion, shock, sorrow, fear and suffering. We prayed.”
Aceh was the closest to the earthquake epicentre. At least 170,000 people were killed there.
Sri Lanka is marking the anniversary with a symbolic ride of a train the tsunami had derailed, killing 1,270 passengers. The train will be powered by the same locomotive and feature five of the original carriages.
In Thailand, 5,400 people were killed, among them about 2,000 foreign tourists. Almost 3,000 people remain missing.
The people on the globe missed their loved ones on the disaster and celebrate the incident every year the same day in the memories of victims.
