KARACHI: Today marks the 64th birth anniversary of Moin Akthar, one of the most Pakistani beloved comics, hosts and actors and his extraordinary impersonations and compelling performances earned him recognition in no time.

Moin Akhtar was born in Karachi to Urdu speaking parents migrated from Mumbai India. Moin Akhtar is a listed in a greatest artist of Pakistan and has starred in many TV dramas and live comedy events.

Moin Akhtar was highly dynamic and versatile performer, he made his debut for television on 6 September 1966, in a variety show held on PTV to celebrate the first defense day ofPakistan.

He started off as a stand-up comedian in 1966-67 by impersonating Hollywood actor Anthony Quinn and John F Kennedy’s speech in which he also mimicked the voice of the former president.

Akhtar was more than just a class act and that is why at a young age of 13, he played the character of Shylock in Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice.[5] Since then, he has performed several roles in TV plays/shows, later making a team with Anwar Maqsood and Bushra Ansari.

He is rated among top artists in Pakistan. In 2005 he started work on talk show Loose Talk, in which he appears as a disguised guest every time and is interviewed humorously by writer Anwar Maqsood. Loose Talk airs on ARY Digital. He hosted “The Moin Akhtar Show” on PTV.

Akhtar performed not only in Pakistan but played in several stage shows like Bakra Qiston Pe and Buddha Ghar Pe Hai with Umer Sharif in India too.

In recognition of his talent and work , Akhtar was awarded with Pride of Performance, Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan While in 1996 he was awarded honorary citizenship of Dallas for his achievements.

Moin Akhtar died on April 22, 2011 in Karachi after suffering from a heart attack.
