ISLAMABAD – Parliamentary leaders and Military leadership get together in cabinet meeting in Islamabad today (Wednesday) to finalize a national action plan to counter terrorism and extremism.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will chair the meeting. The plan has been prepared by a Parliamentary Committee in consensus with all political stakeholders.

The National Action Plan Committee on Counter-terrorism has finalised its recommendations to fight terrorism.

The Committee after holding two lengthy sessions with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the chair in Islamabad thoroughly discussed proposals by joint working group.

Director General ISI Lt. General Rizwan Akhtar and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Shareef will also attend the meeting.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, chief of Jammat Islami Siraj -ul- Haq, chief of Pakistan Tehreek -e- Insaf Imran Khan, chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal-ur-Rehman and other senior leader participating in meeting.

Earlier on Tuesday, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan while chairing the session of the committee submitted a draft of the recommendations of the working group comprising of 18 points.

The working group recommended seminary reforms and constitution of the special anti-terrorism courts.

Jamaat Islami opposed establishment of the military courts. The party representative argued that the existing judicial system has punished the culprits and opposed formation of military courts in presence of the constitution and the law. JI leader also argued that the military courts will bypass the existing judicial system.

The participants of the meeting setting aside the objection raised by the JI agreed overconstitution of the military courts.

Amongst 17 recommendations of the working group the committee agreed over eight in the session. Remaining points will be tackled in the next session today.

Federal ministers Chaudhry Nisar Ali and Ishaq Dar met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during the interval of the session and consulted over the National Action Plan.
