ISLAMABAD – Hatred against Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Aziz provoked and people gathered to protest when he refused to condemn the killing of students and teachers in a terrorist attack on a school in Peshawar.

According to sources people gathered in Lal masjid to protest against Maulana AbdulAaziz due to his statement that he is not sorry for brutal killings of Peshawar school and he did not condemned the act of Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

This protest was arranged by Karachi resident person who was here in Islamabad. He said that he decided to organize candlelight vigil for the children of Peshawar attack. He announced his decision on social media with hash-tag “#reclaim our mosques” on which civil society responded positively.

Lal Masjid management lodge First Information Report (FIR) against the protesters.

An official of police said that “We tried to find the organizer who had announced the event on social media to ask him to cancel the event but we were not able to find him. People began arriving at the announced time so we deputed police personnel at the mosque.”

Organizer of the candle vigil said that “I learnt that police were looking for me and after the vigil they tried to arrest me. Photographers who appeared to be associated with Lal Masjid also took pictures of me,” he added that “However, I am considering holding the vigil at the same place again tomorrow.”

Station House Officer (SHO) at Aabpara Police Station Abdul Rehman confirmed that an FIR had been registered against participants of the protest.

He said that “The protesters violated Section 144, they blocked the road and delivered hate speech against the administration of the mosque.”
