LB polls being held in Balochistan today, arrangements complete: Acting CEC | PakistanTribeQUETTA – Local body election in Balochistan will be held today (Saturday). Voting will start at 8.00 am and will continue till 5.00 pm without any break across the province. All security arrangements have been finalized for the polls.

Balochistan government has announced public holiday in the province on Saturday because of local bodies’ elections in the province.

The government has also imposed Section 144 and banned pillion riding in the entire province from 6th to 10th of this month to make the whole electoral process peaceful and smooth.

According to the statement released by Home and Tribal Affairs Department, the decision was taken to maintain law and order during the local bodies elections scheduled for December 7.

Meanwhile, while talking to media at the Quetta airport, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Nasirul Mulk said that all the arrangements for holding the local bodies’ polls in Balochistan are complete.

He said that local bodies’ polls in the Sindh and the Punjab would be held on the stipulated time. He said that Balochistan has the honour that local bodies’ polls are being held there prior to the other provinces.

Meanwhile‚ talking to media persons, Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmad said that all arrangements have been finalized to hold LB polls in Balochistan.

Ishtiaq Ahmad said Balochistan government had been working on holding of elections since 2011 and deserves appreciation for its commitment and efforts.

He said all parties of Balochistan are taking part in LB which manifests the trust people have on these elections.

The election commission stated that voting will take place at 5718 polling stations while 2,776 polling stations of Balochistan were declared sensitive. As many as 11847 polling booths have been set up and the 4118 candidates would contest the polls and 2509 candidates have succeeded unopposed.

More than 50,000 security personnel have been deployed in the province for providing security during the local bodies elections in the province.
