LAHORE – Workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is holding a dawn-to-dusk protest at 18 sites in Lahore today (Monday), PakistanTribe reported.

Latest updates : PTI Chairman Imran Khan joined a caravan of his supporters which was passing through different areas of Lahore and is expected to culminate outside the Punjab Assembly premises.

Imran was seen standing on the roof of the vehicle he was travelling in. He was waving to his supporters and addressed them when the caravan reached Liberty area.

His vehicle was surrounded by a large number of supporters who formed a cordon of their own for security.

The participants of the caravan could be seen shouting anti-government slogans. The PTI chairman has said that he would deliver a ‘victory speech’ upon the successive completion of today’s protest.

PML-N supporters maintained their distance from the caravan’s route as per instruction received from their party’s senior leadership.

Latest updates : Rallying activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz came face to face in Lahore’s Bhaati Chowk area with both sides were chanting slogans against the leaders of their opposing parties.

PTI is holding protests at various areas of Lahore a part of the party’s Plan C. The demonstrators are shouting slogans against the government and in favour of their demands.

The PML-N activists had gathered to protests against the PTI protests which according to them were forcefully closing shops and businesses in the city. The supporters said their protests would continue until the shops and routes ‘forced shut by the PTI’ were not re-opened.

The sloganeering escalated into a physical clash between workers of both parties. The PML-N workers, who were greatly outnumbered by the PTI supporters, were forced to make a retreat.

PTI activists are protesting against the alleged rigging in general elections of 2013 and the federal government  in 18 different areas of Lahore including Thokar Niaz Baig, Shahdara, Babu Sabu, GT Road, Chungi Amar Sadhu, Mall Road, PMG Chowk, High Court Chowk, Mozang Chungi, Bekhewal Morr, Akbar Chowk, Liberty Market, Bhatta Chowk, Mughalpura, Shalamar, Jorray Pul, Bhati Chowk and Shah Alam Circular Road.

Imran Khan speaking to reporters on Monday said , “I want to apologise to the residents of Lahore. We have been holding protests since the past four months but the government has left us with no other option but to take to the streets,” he said. “If we do not make sacrifices today then our children would need to make sacrifices tomorrow.” He added, “I have instructed our workers not to cause any hindrance to ambulances and the media. I would request the media to identify our workers in case they carry out any subverse activity. We will suspend those workers from the party and take action against them.”

PTI Chairman Imran Khan will arrive in Lahore at 12:00 noon, according to the details. He had appealed the traders to close their business for a day but no one will be forced to close their businesses on the occasion.

The party workers have blocked the Metro Bus Services as well.
