FAISALABAD – Tense situation created in Faisalabad after workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) took it to roads and blocked Milat Chowk and Naolati Chowk for traffic by burning tyres on Monday in the wake of lock down call by PTI.
Latest update – Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf called off talks with the government following deadly clashes in Faisalabad ahead of Imran Khan’s call for a ‘shutdown’ of the city.
“Talks cannot continue in the current environment. The government has no right to stop peaceful demonstrations,” said PTI leader Arif Alvi.
At least one PTI activist was killed as violent clashes erupted between PTI and workers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The PTI says it will observe a countrywide day of mourning on Tuesday in protest of the killing of its worker.
Latest update- Convey of Imran Khan reached Chanab Chowk moving towards the residence of Rana Sanaullah.
Latest update – Supporters of the PTI and PML-N clash with each other in Hyderabad. Activists of the two parties also started hurling stones at each other.
PTI workers were heading towards Dayal Das Club in Hyderabad when the clash broke out between the workers of the PTI and PML-N.
Police, however, intervened and brought the situation in control.

Latest update – Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rasheed says that nefarious designs of Imran Khan have been disclosed now.
In a statement, he says that Imran Khan is staying at his Bani Gala villa (Islamabad) and has allowed workers to create disturbance in Faisalabad.
He says PTI always violates agreement in staging its protest.
The minister says police has been kept unarmed.
Latest update – PTI’s Punjab president Ejaz Chaudhry says the party holds District Coordination Officer (DCO) Faisalabad Noor Ul Amin Mengal, Rana Sanaullah and his son-in-law accountable for the killing of its worker in today’s clashes.
He says PTI will observe a day of mourning in Faisalabad tomorrow, adding that he will speak to PTI Chairman Imran Khan to announce a day of mourning across the country.
2 : 50 – Imran Khan – Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) – says that Asghar Ali’s murder is brutal act of PML (N) workers and expressed his sad feelings on the demise.
Imran khan expressed his sad feelings for murder of PTI worker in Faisalabad. He advised his workers to stay calm and peaceful. He announced to register FIR against government on the death of Asghar Ali.
1 : 30 – PML-N workers have been attaked by PTI workers at Allied chowk . Workers of Both parties again come face to face at Ghanta Ghar chowk and on the other side PML-N workers gathered a rally in Jaranwala. All shops at Ghanta Ghar chowk lock down after tense situation.
1 : 20 – PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah denies PML-N or police association to the death of the PTI worker in Faisalabad. He added that PTI activists, who earlier threatened to stage a protest outside Sanaullah’s residence, could take his body “wherever they wanted”.
1 : 15 – Shah Mehmmod Qureshi reveled the name of shooter and claimed ” Guard of Rana Sanaullah’s Son in law, Shahid killed the young worker by straight Fire.”
1 : 10 – PTI works have taken the dead body of Asghar Ali to the residence of PML-N leader and former law minister Rana Sanaullah as a sign of protest.
12 : 50 – Leader of Pakistan Tehreek -e- Insaf Shah Mehmood Qureshi said ” All PTI workers must stay on ground and remain peaceful, Imran Khan is coming.”
He said he and Imran Khan were coming to Faisalabad to stand with their workers.
The purpose of stirring clash with the PTI meant to crack down on the party and arrest our workers, Qureshi said.
12 : 44 – Cheif Police Officer Sohail Tajik claimed that police identified the gun man and soon we arrest him.
12 : 27 – Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif calls a meeting of the federal cabinet to review the current situation in Faisalabad. More eight wounded workers shifted to hospital including two Police men.
Gun battle start between the workers of PTI and PML-N. 23 year old worker of PTI dead in a straight fire. Dead body of Ashgar Ali have been shifted to near by hospital. Five other injured people also shifted to the hospital.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of firing on Faisalabad’s Novelty Pull and has summoned a report of the incident.
Police is now using watercannons to dispel protesters. Stick-wielding activists of the two parties also pelted each other with eggs.
Clash erupted between workers of PTI and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) who got into verbal confrontation when PML-N activists started throwing tomatoes and eggs at PTI workers in a bid to harass and disperse them. Police used water cannons in order to scatter away the protesters.
PTI workers from various areas scattered in the city in the form of groups. Ghanta Ghar is a junction of eight markets and shutting it down would paralyze business of the city. Protest at Khurrianwala Bypass and Abdullah Pur Intersection would disconnect Faisalabad from routes leading to railway station and bus stands including the routes to Lahore, Jaranwala and other cities in the east.
Blocking Kamal Pur Intersection would block roads to Jhang and southern Punjab whereas blockading road to Jhang would obstruct traffic heading towards the airport.
Earlier, PTI Chairman Imran Khan had announced to shut down Faisalabad on Monday, 8th December. He had asked traders and transporters to shut down their businesses for a day to protest against the prevailing system and the federal government.
The party chairman had said that a peaceful shutterdown strike will be observed on the day whereas he had warned that the protests will be turned into sit-ins if the authorities and the government resorts to violence against their activists.
