NEW YORK – Twitter’s Hashtag (#) idea – proposed by Chris Messina – was an accidental invention but now grown into seven years and the most popular phenomenon among twitter users.
Chris Messina, the inventor of Hashtag (#) on twitter says that “The idea of hashtag was to arrange users in a group to give them maximum excess to the information.”
This idea was unique and friends of Chris Messina appreciated him. For the two starting years it was not popular in twitter users but with the passage of time it became acceptable for every user. Now seven years passed and Hashtag is in common use of twitter users.
Messina first proposed that Twitter users use a hashtag to create groups in 2007. Here is the first tweet with hashtag from Chris Messina:
how do you feel about using # (pound) for groups. As in #barcamp [msg]?

Chris further said that this is good sign that companies are marketing their products with hashtag to give maximum access. Now facebook users are also adopting hashtags.
