KARACHI – The former military strongman General (rtd.) Pervez Musharraf has revealed the big blunder US made in Afghanistan which led to its defeat, PakistanTribe reported.
Musharraf was addressing to a conference in Karachi on Thursday evening.
He said “It was the blunder of US not to convert their military victory into political victory. The major proportion of Afghanistan is comprised of Pashtun ethnicity but they were not given equal share in government.”
“It was also a blunder of US to let Taliban revive in 2003-2004. They were nowhere but suddenly they start pouring in again and nothing was done to counter them just there, just then,” he added.
Musharraf also lambasted the notion that Pakistan nurtured the Taliban in Afghanistan. “Pakistan recognized Taliban because they have swiped out more than 90 per cent of Afghanistan. UAE and Saudi Arabia had recognized Taliban as well. But later they closed their embassies. In 1999 Bill Clinton came to meet me and complaints about Pakistan’s support to Taliban. I told him right away that my thinking was different. I told him Mr President if they are to be left alone then there will no one to control them.”
