ISLAMABAD – The million dollar question of Pakistan’s politics has been solved with the appointment of Justice Sardar Raza as new Chief Election Commissioner, PakistanTribe reported.

National media outlets quoted sources on Thursday stating that Parliamentary Committee has finalized the name of Justice Sardar Raza for the top post in Election Commission of Pakistan.

After the final nomination Justice Raza now has have to resign from his current position of Chief Justice of Federal Shariat Court.

Parliamentary Committee headed by Rafiq Rajwana.

Earlier, The three names were Justice (rtd.) Sardar Raza, Justice (rtd.) Tariq Pervez and Justice (rtd.) Tanveer Ahmed Khan. However, the top and first priority of PPP and PML-N clearly indicates the nomination of Sardar Raza for the post.

Names of Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Rana Bhagwandas were excluded from the list after both rejected the nomination, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf nominee Nasir Aslam Zahid was also dropped from the list.

Yesturday Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk said the top court will consider issuing contempt of court notices to the premier and Shah if they fail to appoint a new chief of the poll body by December 8.

The CEC post fell vacant following the resignation of (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim on July 30, 2013 and apex court judge Justice Anwar Jamali is currently heading the poll body as its acting chief. Jamali, as per a previous court order, will stop working as interim CEC on December 5.
