Another Grave Threat for Peshawar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa other than Terrorism

PESHAWAR – Perhaps the militancy is not the only problem Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) facing right now as the HIV AIDS patients in the province mounts to the country’s highest of over 16,000.

The statistics released by the Health Services Department on Monday to mark World’s AIDS Day indicates that the biggest reason behind the spread of lethal disease in KP comes from keeping sexual relations and using drugs through drugs.

“27.7 per cent of patients got AIDS through sexually transmitted diseases and drugs. 7.2 per cent of patients received virus from eunuch sex workers, 106 percent from male sex workers and 0.6 per cent from female sex workers,” official data indicates.

Moreover, Peshawar – the provincial capital – leads in KP’s cities for ┬áhaving the highest numbers of AIDS patients. Below is the official data major cities in KP:

According to World Health Organization (WHO) there are more than 30 million HIV AIDS patients at present in the world. Every year at least 1.5 million people ceased to live after getting this deadly disease.
