LAHORE – In order to honor the legendary War Veteran of Pakistan Air Force, Group Captain Cecil Chaudhry (Late), Government of Pakistan renamed a part of Lawrence Road Lahore running from St Anthony’s High School to the end of The Sacred Heart Cathedral and The Sacred Heart Convent School as “Cecil Chaudhry Road.”
An exclusive ceremony was held at St Anthony’s High School by Pakistan Air Force on November 29, 2014 with Air Vice Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, Air Officer Commanding, Central Air Command Pakistan, Air Force as the chief guest of the ceremony. While addressing the event, Air Vice Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan said, “Cecil Chaudhry was amongst the distinguished breed of air warriors to whom we all are indebted. He was a legendry Pilot and a true patriot, who displayed unflinching courage, exemplary devotion and sheer professionalism throughout his service in the PAF. The services rendered by him significantly contributed towards achieving air superiority by PAF during the Indo-Pak war of 1965.” He further said, “The legacy of Group Captain Cecil Chaudhry would remain alive forever, in our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers.”
A plaque was unveiled by the Chief Guest and Cecil S Chaudhry, son of Group Captain Cecil Chaudhry, which shall be fixed at a prominent position later on. While thanking the Government of Pakistan and Pakistan Air Force Cecil S Chaudhry said, “We appreciate the initiative taken by the Government and Pakistan Air Force for honouring the services rendered by our father. This road holds special significance for us as this is the school where he studied and later on served as a principal for many years.” Cecil S Chaudhry thanked the Air Vice Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan for recognizing him as ‘an ace fighter pilot of the PAF, an accomplished educationist and an acclaimed human rights activist.’
A citation read out recognizing the services of the Group Captain to the Air Force and the country at large and a documentary produced by the Pakistan Air Force celebrating his life overwhelmed the guests with emotion and patriotism.
Group Captain Cecil Chaudhry (Late) was an acclaimed national hero and a highly decorated war veteran of Pakistan Air Force. In recognition of his valor, he was awarded with Sitara-e-Jurat (Star of Courage), one of the highest military awards of Pakistan. He was also an eminent educationist and a brave human rights activist. For his services in the field of education and human rights, he was also awarded Pride of Performance by the Government of Pakistan.
